Algerian health authorities on Sunday announced that they have taken preventive measures on the southern border of the country to counter the spread of deadly Ebola virus.
The country has already been mobilizing its medical staffs in border areas, the state run radio cited a medical source in the southernmost province of Tamenrasset as saying.
These medical teams consist of four doctors tasked with the mission of providing health care coverage. The authorities have also established a sanitary control post at the airport of Tamanrasset.
These preventive measures are part of the implementation of the screening and early diagnosis scheme developed by the Ministry of Health, and which was immediately reactivated after the outbreak of Ebola virus in some African countries, the source added.
The North African nation has detected no cases of Ebola so far, specified the source, adding that the prevention operation includes raising awareness of local residents in border areas and travelers to African countries on the risks of this contagious disease and measures to stay safe.
The Ebola virus, which is transmitted between humans through bodily fluids, hit Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and has spread, in recent months, to other neighboring countries.
