Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) Director General Hayel Obeidat on Thursday said 87 per cent of the food-related violations recorded during Eid Al Fitr were in Irbid Governorate, while another 12 per cent were recorded in Amman and Zarqa. During a meeting with owners of food outlets and restaurants in Irbid, he said more than 1.5 tonnes of meat, fish and canned food items found unfit for human consumption were destroyed on the second and third days of Eid, besides 322 litres of various beverages. During 28 field visits, 14 food outlets were closed down completely and business at another 10 eateries was suspended. The JFDA also issued 25 tickets for violations found in food outlets in Irbid during Eid, he said, noting that the JFDA is continuing with its inspection campaigns. From JT
