We’ve put together a calendar of the most happening fitness classes – one for every day in November – and we’re giving away five places in each one. We’re going to all of them. Want to join us? Keep an eye on our Facebook page the morning before the class you want to try is scheduled for details of how to win a place. Think burn. Think sweat. Think fun. Are you ready? Let’s go... 1. Thursday: Hatha yoga (beginners) When 8.30am-9.30am Where Yoga Studio in Balance Wellness Club, (www.balancewellness-centre.com, 04-3847010) What Hatha yoga encompasses all the different elements of yoga, including poses, breathing exercises and meditation. Although it’s a beginners class, don’t think you’re in for an easy sail – be prepared to move more than you chill and sweat more than you expect. 2. Friday: CX Worx When 10.15am-10.45am Where Optimal Fitness, Studio City (www.optimalfitness.ae, 04-4572048) What The latest workout from the gym-class genius that is Les Mills, CX Worx is all about toning abs and glutes in a short, but sweet, 30-minute workout. Les Mills rates it as being moderate to high intensity and it burns approximately 230 calories. 3. Saturday: Crossfit When 4pm-5pm Where Reebok CrossFit LifeSpark, Concorde Tower, JLT (reebokcrossfitlifespark.com) What It’s like weight training but really good fun. The programme changes each day and has almost instant body-sculpting results if you commit to it. 4. Sunday: Budokon When 8am-9am Where Pharaoh’s Club, Wafi (beckyhart@budokonuae.com, 050-1453493) What Instructor Becky says it’s a “blend of yoga, martial arts and meditation, with a feel of tai chi and mindful movement – it’s a powerful integrated movement to enhance body and mind.” 5. Monday: ABS rehab When 8am-9am, or 5pm-6pm Where Dance Fit, Shaikh Zayed Road, Al Sayyah Building, near Dubai Garden Centre What Abs Rehab utilises the uppercut boxing move and combines it with other shoulderdefining, arm-toning moves to give you a total upper-body workout and help you improve your core strength. 6. Tuesday: Pilates surprise When 6.30pm-7.30pm Where Motion Ladies Fitness Centre, Umm Suqeim 3 (motionfitnesscenter.com, 04-3282538) What Each session is different with the use of new, fresh techniques, props and equipment. Turn up 7. Wednesday: Intensati When 6.30pm-7.30pm Where Breathe Believe Pilates, Dubai World Trade Centre Apartments Leisure Club, out the back of Tower C (www.breathebelievepilates.com, 050-8493239) What High-energy movements choreographed to chart-topping music and positive affirmations for each movement. Calorie burning and soul lifting. 8. Thursday: Skiptrix When 8.30am-9.30am Where Urban Energy at DanceFit, Shaikh Zayed Road (www.urbanenergyfitness.com, 055-8869158) What Forget childhood skipping with friends, Skiptrix requires coordination, concentration and a lot of determination. On the upside, it burns mega calories and the fact you have to concentrate makes time pass really quickly. 9. Friday: Pre and postnatal yoga When 9am-10am Where Urban Energy at Star International School, Umm Al Sheif (www.urbanenergyfitness.com, 055-8869158) What Great for pregnant mums who want to stay in shape, as well as mums who have just given birth, who want to get back in shape. 10. Saturday: Salsa When 6pm-7pm Where James and Alex Dance Studios, Concord Tower, Media City (www.jamesandalex.com, 04-4470773) What Shake it to the Latin beat! Salsa is a fun, feisty way to work out – and gives you some serious moves for the dance floor. 11. Sunday: Box fit When 9.30am-10.30am Where Optimal Fitness, Studio City behind MotorCity (optimalfitness.ae, 04-4572048) What A great cardio workout and an amazing way to de-stress as you punch it all out of your system. The classic look-good, feel-great group exercise class has never lost its appeal. 12. Monday: Yogalates When 7.15pm-8.15pm Where Yogalates Bliss in Dubai, Fraser Suites – Sidra Tower, Media City (www.yogalatesblissindubai.com) What A sunset blend of yoga and pilates, alfresco on the terrace of Fraser Suites with views of the Gulf. Blissful! 13. Tuesday: Flywheel When 10.30am-11.15am Where Burj Views (dubai.flywheelsports.com, 04-4232544) What Indoor cycling has never been so fast, so furious, or so much fun. Flywheel takes spinning, makes it digital, amps up the music and adds a huge dose of competition. The result? A truly addictive, calorie-busting workout. Try it once... just once! We dare you. Wednesday: Core Fit When 7.30pm-8.30pm Where Core Direction, Dubai Marina (www.corefit.me, 050-9226247) What Olympicstyle weight lifting manoeuvres, gymnastics and cardio combined to create an intense full-body strengthening and conditioning workout. This is Core Direction’s own version of CrossFit. 15. Thursday: Power Yoga When 8.30am-9.30am Where Fitness First MotorCity (fitnessfirst-me.com, 04-4310919) What Yoga on fast forward – this class involves quick, continuous yoga poses, including inversions, balance poses and back bends. 16. Friday: Padeltennis When Anytime in the afternoon Where Emirates Golf Club (www.dubaigolf.com, 056-1751193) What Padeltennis is played on a small court with walls, with a stringless racquet and tennis balls. It’s hugely popular and lots of fun. Just two winners for today – but each winner can take a friend with them for a 60-minute session, including some coaching. 17. Saturday: Dynamic Yoga When 8pm-9.30pm Where Balance Wellness Club, Oasis Centre (www.balance-wellnesscentre.com, 04-3847010) What A 90-minute intermediate class, focusing mainly on toning the abdomen and the thighs, ending with a relaxing cool down. Not for the faint-hearted, this is yoga with a sweat on. 18. Sunday: Xtend barre When 7pm-8pm Where Body Tree Studio, Abu Dhabi (www.bodytreestudio.com, 02-4434448) What Combines Pilates with ballet movements to create a blend of cardiovascular and strengthening exercise. It is done to beaty music and is one of the studio’s most popular classes. 19. Monday: Abada Capoeira When 8pm-9.30pm Where Silverine Tower, Dubai Marina (www.abadacapoeiradubai.com, 050-8659897) What A type of martial art, which is more like dancing than fighting. It’s a great workout, really good fun, and has one of the friendliest class environments in town. 20. Tuesday: Vinyasa flow When 6.45pm-8.15pm Where Yoga Studio in Balance Wellness Club, (www.balance-wellness-centre.com, 04-3847010) What An intermediate yoga class with a faster pace, fewer rests between poses and more inversions. This will have you panting and begging for mercy by the end – a great workout. 21. Wednesday: Futuro Tuff When 8.30am-9.15am Where Fitness First, BurJuman Centre (www.fitnessfirst-me.com, 04-3510044) What Part training, part cardio exercise, Tuff uses intense interval training to burn off 800 calories in 45 minutes. Suitable for all fitness levels. 22. Thursday: Personal training When 6.30am-8pm Where Symmetry Gym, Sheikh Zayed Rd (www.symmetrygymdubai.com, 04-3466479) What A 60-minute introduction to the wonders of personal training and how it can revolutionise your fitness regime. including an assessment. 23. Friday: Flywheel When 10.45am-11.30am Where Burj Views (dubai.flywheelsports.com, 04-4232544) What If you missed Tuesday’s class, kick the weekend off with a bang with this fab indoor cycling class. It will motivate you to sweat like you’ve never sweat before. See page 30 for a full review of this class. 24. Saturday: Muay Thai/Kickboxing When 6.30pm-8pm Where KO Gym, Dubai Marina (Find them on Facebook under KO Crew, 050-2861673) What A 30-minute warm-up during which the KO team will plank, squat and burpee you to within an inch of your life, followed by 60-minutes of stressbusting muay Thai training. Great for the body and the mind. 25. Sunday: Corb When 12.30pm-1pm Where Fitness First, Knowledge Village (www.fitnessfirst-me.com, 04-4298744) What This class is purely about strengthening your core and toning up your back muscles, using good choreography and weighted plates for maximum muscle burn. 26. Monday: Boxfit on the beach When 7.30pm-8.30pm Where Ignite Fitness and Wellness, either at Riva Beach Club on Palm Jumeirah, or at The Shack, Kite Surf Beach Umm Suqeim (www.ignite-wellness.com, 04-4487142) What Uplifting boxing-inspired aerobics choreographed to beaty music. Think GI Jane with disco beats on the beach. 27. Tuesday: Swing Yoga When 4.30pm-5.30pm Where Fitness First, Beach Park Plaza, Jumeirah Beach Road (www.fitnessfirstme.com, 04-3856464) What Think yoga mixed with a bit of Cirque De Soleil. Large colourful silks hang from the ceiling which you use to really get the most out of each yoga pose. 28. Wednesday: Ballet Barre When 5.30pm-6.30pm Where Exhale, MotorCity (www.exhaledubai.com, 04-4474220) What A ballet-inspired exercise class that combines Pilates and ballet movements, utilising the ballet barre. Long lean limbs and graceful footsteps guaranteed. 29. Thursday: Pranayama/meditation When 3pm-4pm Where Yoga Studio in Balance Wellness Club, at the Oasis Centre (www.balance-wellness-centre.com, 04-3847010) What End the weekend on a chilled note with breathing exercises and a guided meditation in a peaceful, serene environment. 30. Friday: Polecise When 6pm-7pm Where Fortune Executive Tower 1502, JLT (050-8806775) What Exactly as you would expect a pole dancing exercise class to be, but a much harder workout than you would expect. Great for full-body toning, killer abs and channelling your inner sexy stage goddess.
