Ban Ki-moon
Amman - Arab Today

United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki-moon stressed Sunday that the current aid is not sufficient for the Syrian refugees in Jordan.

He called on the international community to shoulder its responsibility to allow the hosting Arab country to carry out its humanitarian role.

These remarks came during the visit of the UN chief to Zaatari refugee camp in Mafraq to get acquainted with the humanitarian needs of the refugees on the ground.

Jordan hosts since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis in March 2011 and till now about 640,000 Syrian refugees according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

The UN chief asserted that his organization will resume offering aid to the refugees in Jordan.

He highlighted the positive changes in the camp as there are some services offered to the refugees to secure a better life for them.

For his part, the Head of the World Bank (WB) Jim Yong Kim, who accompanied Ban Ki-moon on his tour, underlined that the WB will continue backing the economic and social developmental programs as well as improving the services provided to citizens in light of the efforts exerted by Jordan to host the refugees.
