Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Tuesday took part in a meeting that was called for by French President Francois Hollande on following up the African initiative for renewable energy.
Attending the meeting also were several African heads of state and government along with representatives of international finance foundations, said Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Alaa Youssef.
President Sisi attended the meeting in his capacity as the head of the committee of African heads of state and government concerned with the climate change, added the spokesman.
President Sisi launched last year, during the climate change summit in Paris, an initiative for supporting African countries to achieve sustainable development through benefiting from clean energy, said the spokesman.
President Sisi addressed the meeting noting that depending on renewable energy will not only contribute to achieving sustainable development but will also support efforts for maintaining energy security and help contain the adverse impact of climate change, said the spokesman.
President Hollande and other participant heads of state and government lauded president Sisi for launching the initiative and his keenness on activating it, added the spokesman.
