Cairo - Arab Today

Prime Minister Sherif Ismail held a meeting with governor of the People's Bank of China (PBOC), in the presence of the Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt.

Ismail voiced appreciation for the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping and his accompanying delegation, the first of its kind to Egypt and the Middle East region.

Egypt is ready to cooperate with China in various projects and investments, mainly in the Suez Canal Area Development Project, Ismail said.

The Egyptian government is committed to improve the investment climate, infrastructure, and provide incentives for the investment, Ismail said.

The government seeks to achieve a growth rate of more than 5.5 percent to improve the services provided for Egyptian citizens, he added.

The Egyptian premier hailed the agreements expected to be signed by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Chinese counterpart in the fields of energy, electricity and transport, in addition to the projects on the development of Egypt's new administrative capital.

Egypt welcomes cooperation with China in various fields, the prime minister said, voicing hope that China could support Egypt's economic reforms for the stability of the region during the coming period.

Ismail also voiced Egypt's support to an initiative floated by the Chinese president to revive the Silk Road.

He noted that there are several promising investment opportunities between both countries.

For his part, the Chinese official said the PBOC is keen on enhancing cooperation with Egypt in various fields, praising steps taken by President Sisi to achieve stability in Egypt.

The PBOC is looking forward to providing the necessary funding for development projects, he added.
