His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, today visited the Unmanned Systems Exhibition (UMEX) 2015, featuring for the first time on the sidelines of the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) 2015.
Sheikh Mohamed's tour covered a number of international and local companies showcasing at the UMEX pavilion, during which he was briefed by the exhibitors and representatives of companies about major innovations of the Defence System manufacturers, which use remote and unmanned aircraft technology.
The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi exchanged views with the representatives of companies about the hardware specifications, equipment and systems being featured at the exhibition, nature of their multiple purpose uses, including the implementation of the special tasks in the areas of operations, in addition to the monitoring and protection of borders, the Coast Guard work, detection of suspicious objects and support of civil defence work, reconnaissance and monitoring of hostile targets.
The UNMEX is spread over an area of 2,348 square metres at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre "ADNEC". Thirty-three local and international companies representing 13 countries, including seven national pavilions, are taking part at the event.
After the UMEX tour, Sheikh Mohamed visited the pavilion of the Republic of Slovakia, where he met with Slovak Minister of Defence, Martin Glvac. They exchanged views on the participation of Slovak at the IDEX with four specialised defence industries in the land and air fields.
The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the Slovak Defence Minister also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation ties between the two friendly countries in the defence, military and advanced industries' sectors.
Sheikh Mohamed toured the Tawazun Training Centre, where he was briefed about the training and academic programmes, as well as student projects. Founded in 2010, the centre trains Emirati cadres in the fields of engineering and technology. It has also established strategic partnerships with a number of higher education institutions in the UAE and abroad.
The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi acquainted himself with samples of the student graduation projects, including automated robot project, a project to divert heat and steam into mechanical movement, a project to control machines through computers, and others.
Sheikh Mohamed expressed his satisfaction about the distinguished projects that reflect the capabilities and skills acquired by Emiratis in engineering, technical and quality disciplines, adding that these projects represent nucleus that can enhance the level of national industry.
He wished the students further excellence and success, and urged them to continue improving their skills to develop technical capacity equipped with merit, excellence and innovation.
At the conclusion of his visit to the centre, Sheikh Mohamed posed for the group photos with a number of students and officials of the centre.
