Lebanon’s President Michal Aoun will hold a two-day visit to Cairo on Monday to meet with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah Al Sisi. The Lebanese president is scheduled to visit the headquarters of Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox Church, Azhar Sheikhdom, and League of Arab States. He also will hold a meeting with the Lebanese community in Cairo.
According to diplomatic sources, over 15 agreements are scheduled to be signed during the visit. Most of the agreements aim to increase economic cooperation and trade exchange between the two countries.
Aoun will visit the League of Arab States on Tuesday to deliver a speech before the permanent representatives over the importance of supporting the Arab integration. Then, he will conduct a visit to St. Mark Cathedral in Cairo to meet with Coptic Patriarch, Pope Tawadros II. He is scheduled to meet with Azhar’s Grand Imam Ahmed Al Tayeb before holding a meeting with the Lebanese community in Cairo.
The sources revealed that the two presidents will discuss the ways to re-activate the High Joint Committee headed by the prime ministers of the two countries. He will also discuss the ways to intensify the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of tourism, education, economy and health.
He will also discuss the ways to support the Arab integration during the coming period, and the ways to achieve cooperation to combat extremism which poses serious threat against both Egypt and Lebanon.
