French President, Francois Hollande Sunday evening, visited the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office in Amman and met with UNHCR representative to Jordan, Andrew Harper and representatives of non-governmental organizations involved in providing humanitarian assistance to Syrians and Iraqi refugees.
Harper briefed President Hollande about UNHCR services provided for Syrian refugees in Jordan through its offices in Amman, Azraq, Irbid and Mafraq.
Harper noted that there are more than 700,000 UNHCR registered refugees, most of whom live among local communities, putting more pressure on basic services and infrastructure provided for Jordanian citizens.
He mentioned services UNHCR is providing to refugees, in cooperation with the Jordanian government, donor countries, various UN agencies, civil society and private organizations.
