Rabat - Arab Today

Ismail Yasar, a former Special Adviser to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, rebuked a Turkish anchor for lashing out at Morocco, adding that “the Sahara is Moroccan and will remain Moroccan.”

A few days ago a Turkish TV anchor insulted Morocco and Moroccans in her comment on the wedding of the famous Turkish actor Murat Yildirim to former Miss Morocco, Imane Al Bani. The anchor was troubled by the fact that the wedding, which took place in Turkey, highlighted aspects of the Moroccan culture. However, her attack was politically oriented, as she said:

“Why you are showing me Moroccan culture from the morning to the evening? A country [Morocco] that was not even accepted by the African Union, Africa does not want to accept it. A country we don’t not know how it entered [the territory] of the Western Sahara.”

Footage of the attack went viral on Moroccan social media and prompted a wave of indignation. The former Special Adviser to the Turkish President, Ismail Yasar, who is also married to a Moroccan woman, addressed the TV anchor in video he posted on Youtube.

After talking about the threat of terrorism putting Turkey in difficult times, Yasar pointed out that Morocco was attacked in a “derogatory and provocative manner.”

He said that he has been married to a Morocco woman for 10 years and that he knows “the Moroccan customs and tradition very well,” noting that he does not accept any act of defamation targeting Morocco the same way he would not accept it for Turkey.

“You invoked wrong and provocative information as you spoke about the Moroccan Sahara. The Sahara is Moroccan, not colonized, and it will remain Moroccan,” said the former official addressing the TV anchor.

Yasar continued his rebuke saying that the anchor committed a “serious mistake by attacking the Moroccan customs and traditions” and that she lacks knowledge about the political and commercial relations between the two countries.

The former government official also called upon the Turkish anchor to “search its history and verify the information [she has] about it,” adding that Morocco is “founding member” of the African Union.
