Cairo - Arab Today

Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit is following up developments regarding the activation of an African Union-brokered roadmap for ending conflicts in Sudan.

The roadmap is an important step for achieving real and comprehensive political dialogue in Sudan under an initiative by Sudanese President Omar al Bashir, Arab League secretary general spokesman Mahmoud Afifi said.

The secretary general welcomes the recent signing of the four main factions in Sudan of the roadmap in Addis Ababa after the government signed it in March, Afifi said.

Abul Gheit hopes that the Sudanese sides continue to interact positively in direct ceasefire negotiations and measures to deliver humanitarian assistance to affected persons, the spokesman added.
