Violatile Magot monkeys attack village in Algiers
Algiers - Nacima Ourgali
Violatile Magot monkeys attack village in Algiers A group of one hundred Maggot monkeys attacked has attacked a village in Algeria, causing panic and horror amongst residents .
The pack of thieving monkeys stole huge amounts of fruit, and destroyed homes, in the village of Bouira, 120 km east of the capital Algiers.
This isn’t the first time the medium sized primates have attacked village in Algiers.
On Saturday, another group descended on the village of Aguouillal, northeast of Bouira, known for its abundant fruit plantations, and took off with crop harvests and fruit cultivations.  Amongst the main losses were figs and pomegranates.
The monkeys are also noted for their extreme tendencies for violence, and regularly attack villagers if they are apprehended in their theft.
Despite abundant food sources, they have seen a steady decline in number in the wild, since 2004, and are listed as an endangered species.
