Khartoum - Abedalgoum Ashmeag

UNAMID is one of the world's largest peacekeeping missions, with 20,000 troops and police The Joint Mission of the United Nations and the African Union (UNAMID) said on Tuesday that four peacekeepers were missing in the state of West Darfur after a flash flood hit while they escorted an aid mission on August 25.
UNAMID’s Media Relations Officer, Rania abdel-Rahman, said to Arab Today that six peacekeepers were accompanying a World Food Program vehicle when they were caught by the flash flood.
Rescue workers managed to save two people however four were still missing, abdel-Rahman said without revealing their nationalities.
Floods across Sudan this month have killed about 50 people and affected more than 500,000, according to government figures.
UNAMID is one of the world's largest peacekeeping missions, with about 20,000 troops and police.
Its mandate is to protect civilians and provide security for aid workers in the region where violence has worsened this year, mainly because of inter-Arab tribal battles.
Thirteen peacekeepers have died in hostile action in Darfur since last October.
