Aftermath of an Israeli air-strike on media building in Gaza Gaza – Mohammed Habib The Palestinian National Authority’s Gaza-based government has barred Israeli media from working in the Gaza Strip, also prohibiting all local media outlets and media personnel from conducting dealings with their Israeli counterparts.
In a statement released after Tuesday's cabinet meeting, the government’s media bureau announced the ban, describing the barred entities as "enemy media outlets."
Government media bureau chief Ihab al-Ghussein said the cabinet decision entails a ban on any correspondents or Palestinian companies that work with Israeli media outlets in Gaza.
The spokesperson for the Palestinian Authority in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip, Taher al-Nounou, told the press that the ban was in return for Israeli targeting of Palestinian media establishments in Gaza in the latest war, in addition to the ban placed on Palestinian media personnel, prohibiting them from working within the borders of the 1948 occupied territories.
Al-Nounou also cited what he termed "the Israeli media blackout on many issues" and "the disruptive policies followed by Israeli media and those that run it, which might be against Palestinian interests."
Four Palestinian media establishments were bombarded in the last Israeli offensive against Gaza, with 24 others sustaining damage.
A limited number of Palestinian correspondents reporting for some Israeli channels have been working in the Gaza Strip under permits issued by the Palestinian Authority.
