Adele won Best Single for Skyfall
London - Vidhi Doshi
Adele won Best Single for Skyfall It must have been a good evening to be Adele yesterday. The Rolling in the Deep singer scooped up yet another award at the Brits, winning Best Single for Skyfall, the new James Bond theme song .Adele has taken the world by storm since her Youtube days, and couldn’t even spare time to attend the ceremonies. Instead, she’s busy stretching her vocal chords in LA in preparation for her performance at Sunday’s Academy Awards.
In a video message, she gave her humble thank-you’s, but she kept it short and sweet this year. She’s obviously learned her lesson from last year, when her wordy victory speech which was cut short with typically British punctuality. She said "Sorry I can't be with you tonight, I'm in LA rehearsing for the Oscars. I won't keep you too long because I don't want to interrupt the best album speech at the end of the night. But I love you all."
Emilie Sande’s speech was a little more tearful. She took the award for Best British Female, despite the tight competition from Amy Winehouse and though she said she was “an unlikely popstar”. Don’t be modest Em - her album, Our Version Of Events has sold 1.4 million copies already.
Sande’s speech definitely pulled on heartstrings: “This is an album I wrote because I didn't have the confidence to say these things in person." she told the crowd.
"For me, that so many people have connected with this album and found strength in these words makes me feel incredible and it doesn't make me feel as lonely."
Mumford and Sons won the award for best group. Named after their hometown chip shop, the boys beamed proudly on stage. “We love being British and we love going around the world and telling people we're British, so we're very proud and very grateful."
But where was Kanye West when Ben Howard took the award for Best British Breakthrough? He should have been there to say what every one was thinking - that Rita Ora deserved it more.
