‘Book in Minutes' initiative
Dubai - Arab Today

Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, MBRF, has launched a new issue of its ‘Book in Minutes' initiative that aims to spread knowledge by offering summarised Arabic versions of the latest international books in specialised areas. The new issue discusses some interesting topics, including innovation in individuals, creating of a gifted generation, and effective ways to address the problem of procrastination.

The first book, ‘The Innovation Secrets of Steve Jobs' by Carmine Gallo, highlights the importance of innovation in the lives of individuals. In the book, Gallo encourages readers to do what they love to do, and encourages them to grab self-employment opportunities. Stating that it is important to have a noble outlook to stimulate innovation within individuals, the author asks readers to convey a message to others through their work.

In the second book, ‘Solving the Procrastination Puzzle', author Timothy A. Pychyl sheds light on the effects of problems of procrastination on people's lives. Highlighting the difference between normal delay and procrastination, Pychyl explains that procrastination leads to failure as people become more vulnerable to negative emotions and health problems.

He advises readers to remain committed to their tasks, and not to give in to the tendency to delay things. The author point out that procrastination is often the consequence of distraction, forgetfulness and irresponsible attitudes, and urges readers to overcome these issues through disciplined training, adequate sleep and positive emotions.

In the third book, ‘Bringing Out the Giftedness in Your Child', authors Rita Dunn, Kenneth Dunn and Donald Treffinger urges parents to focus on their children's potential. The book shows how the home environment can be used for nurturing and stimulation, and explains how to choose and cooperate with teachers. The book describes that the parents' own behaviour influences a child's attitude towards fulfilling his or her potential and encourages parents to focus on a child's unique learning style.

In an opening note to the new summaries, Jamal bin Huwaireb, Managing Director of MBRF, said that promotion of creativity and innovation is fundamental to the building of knowledge based societies and creating a better future. However, the path to creativity and innovation is not easy, but requires serious preparation, starting with the development of talent and potential capacity of the new generation to serve the nation's future.

Huwaireb added, "Talents and capabilities differ from one person to another, therefore it is important to focus on efforts to provide appropriate education to the young generation with adequate support from parents and all those around them. Traditional curriculum must keep pace with the latest developments, enhance talents and capabilities, and help satisfy curiosity. Ultimately, human wealth is the real wealth of any nation and investment in human capital is the most important investment that can ensure sustainable development of any society."
