Cairo - Arabstoday
Football fans take to the field after an African Champions League match The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has insisted the current unrest will not disrupt domestic competitions. “There will be no delay of the Egyptian League. It will resume as scheduled on 12 December,” EFA spokesman Azmy Megahed told Ahram Online.
Protesters in Cairo and many other cities have been demanding an end to police brutality and the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), which has been running the country since former president Hosni Mubarak stepped down, transfer power to a civilian authority.
“The unrest in the country will not delay the league race even if it continues until 12 December,” Megahed added.
There have been least two thousand injured and 33 dead so far in clashes around the interior ministry near Tahrir Square since last Saturday.
Titleholders Ahly are currently in the league driving seat with 14 points – 4 points ahead of archrivals Zamalek, who are fifth in the table with one game in hand.
