Tunis – Azhar Jarboui

Tunisia's President Moncef Marzouki Tunis – Azhar Jarboui Tunisia's President Moncef Marzouki invited the Tunisian people as well as political parties and components of civil society to "leave their differences aside " during the 3-day Eid break, in a televised message on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr on Wednesday night.
Marzouki's message came as the country is facing one of its most serious political crises, in addition to waging a bloody war on terror on its western border with Algeria.
After Eid prayers Marzouki, accompanied by the Libyan Defense Minister Rashid el-Sabagh, visited Ramada on the border with Libya, where he wished the troops a happy Eid and praised their effort in protecting the country.
Marzouki's message came as the country is facing one of its most serious political crises, in addition to waging a bloody war on insurgents on its western border with Algeria.
Nearly 20 military personnel have been killed during the last six months in the ongoing crackdown on militant affiliated with al-Qaeda hiding in the rocky terrains of Mountain Chaambi.
The political crisis has left Tunisians more divided than ever, with hundreds of thousands calling for the Ennahdha-led government’s resignation and the dissolution of the Constitutional Assembly, while others still back the government’s “legitimacy.”
On Tuesday, the assembly’s speaker Mustapha Ben Jaafar decided to suspend the works of the Constitutional Assembly after the withdrawal of some 60 opposition representatives from the parliamentary body
On Wednesday Marzouki pardoned 343 convicts to mark the Eid al-Fitr holiday, among them 21 Libyans.
According to the Tunisian Minister of Justice, Nadhir Ben Ammou, none of the released  prisoners were convicted of any terrorism related charges.
