Egyptian soldiers beat a protester during clashes Cairo – Akram Ali A senior Egyptian official has warned of ‘plot’ to set Egypt on fire on the first anniversary of the revolution that ousted Hosni Mubarek, saying the security agencies had uncovered contacts between local elements and foreign quarters to provoke clashes with the army.
"The plot is based on involving unsuspecting young people and candidates who have failed in the parliamentary elections with the aim of derailing the democratization process and bringing down the army and other state institutions," the security source told Middle East News Agency (MENA).
The unnamed security source added that they will call for peaceful protests on the first revolution anniversary, and then they will call for open-en sit-in which will end up with clashes between people and security forces. The scenario aims at carrying out a new revolution that mainly seeks to drag the Armed Forces into bloody confrontations after provoking them in vital places.
Sovereign security departments have managed over the past few days to spot these movements and contacts that are meant to drag the country into chaos and civil war in preparation for issuing resolutions on foreign interference in Egypt, the source continued.
The contacts unveil involvement of foreign parties in using some elements to carry out the first part of the scenario then these sides will implement the rest by seeking an international custody on Egypt.
He stressed that this will only happen if a sit-in was staged and clashes ensued, which will leave some people dead, confirming that state has taken all measures, including security ones, to foil the scheme to protect installations and Egyptians from this chaos.
He also called the youths, citizens and honest revolutionaries to face this plot and be aware not to be involved in this scheme and harm the country, pointing out to that there are only two months and a half from January 25 till the candidacy of presidential elections to hold the first presidential elections to elect a civil president.
Meanwhile, the strategic expert and the military analyst, Ibrahim Shkeib told ‘Arabstoday’ that he believes this ‘plot’ aimed at setting Egypt on fire will end with ‘civil war’ between the people and the army.
He added “we have to be aware in dealing with this plot and try to control the situation.”
He also called on all who want to organize a sit-in to wait until the presidential elections in June.
