Protesters of Suez governor The governor of Suez, Samir Aglan, entered his office from the backdoor and met the Korean ambassador to Egypt, amid protests from demonstrators outside the building. Security forces were drafted in to deal with the strike by protesters, who refuse to accept Aglan's authority and have declared Suez as an independent governorate.
In his meeting with the Korean ambassador on Thursday, Aglan said Egypt took its own road to achieving stability, referring to Saturday's referendum on the draft constitution.
He added that the state would make laws to push investments and secure foreign capital, with the aim of protecting the rights of workers. "We are looking to provide the suitable atmosphere for investments and political stability," he said.
The Korean ambassador proposed that the country uses the el-Sokhna Port in helping trade exchange with East Asian countries. After the meeting, the governor’s car left from the front gate and demonstrators tried to stop it from moving.
Security forces managed to prevent their attempts to storm the governorate office. Two people were arrested in the altercations between the protesters and security forces.
Governorate spokesman told the media that the governor is continuing his work as normal. Demonstrators have called for a rally in the streets of Suez on Friday, to protest against the draft constitution.
