German Chancellor Angela Merkel
Tunis – Hayat El Ghanmy

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit Egypt on 2 March and Tunisia on 3 March, as she is scheduled to meet the presidents of the two Arab countries and senior officials, over boosting cooperation in countering illegal trafficking across the Mediterranean, according to the Human Rights Watch.
This African tour also intends to increase cooperation with the two countries to curtail overall migration from Africa to Europe.
The German government will also talk about both Egypt and Tunisia taking back asylum-seekers who have been rejected in Germany and expelled migrants without documents.
Judith Sunderland, associated director for Europe and central Asia of Human Rights Watch, warned that the German leader may want to conclude shady agreements that could trap asylum seekers and migrants of different provenance in other countries like Tunisia and Egypt, which cannot guarantee decent treatment or effective access to asylum.
