UN Secretary General Martin Kobler
Tripoli - Fatima Saadawy

Special Representative of UN Secretary General Martin Kobler warned of the repercussion of the formation of the so-called national guard in the Libyan capital Tripoli, describing it as the parallel military power. He called the different Libyan parties for not working to achieve political gains by the use of force.

He added, “The attempts to establish parallel bodies would challenge the execution of Libyan political agreement and would lead to more chaos and insecurity. I call for the formation of unified Libyan army working under the leadership of civilian government to provide security for all Libyans.”

The internationally non-recognized Salvation government in Libya announced the formation of the national guard in Tripoli last week, saying that thousands of revolutionaries decided to join the new military body.

On his hand, Tunisian Foreign Minister Khamis Alaghinawa said that his country invited the Libya politicians to visit his country, including Marshal Khalifa Haftar, stressing that their initiative is still open before all Libyan factions except those who involved in terrorism.

He expressed his country’s keenness to support the Libyan conflicting parties to adopt the dialogue as the only way to resolve their differences, underlining the major challenges that face the national unity government, headed by Prime Minister Fayez Al Sarraj, to impose its influence in the country.
