Wasat party wins 17 seats in election The Islamic Wasat Party in Jordan intends to nominate Marwan Faouri to head the next government, according to an informed source. The source also confirmed that the party is looking to form a bloc in the parliament which may not bear the name of Islamic Wasat.
The Islamic Wasat party won through seats through the Watan list and 14 seats through local constituencies; making the total number of the Islamic Wasat seats in the new parliament 17. The number of registered party members is 3500, spread across six branches in the provinces, according to the source.
The same source confirmed that Prime Minister Abdullah Al Nassour congratulated the party immediately after the announcement of the results. The source asserts that the powers of the king were reduced in the Jordanian Constitution.
The source claimed the the Islamic Wasat is looking to become a viable alternative to the Islamist movement in the political process. He also confirmed that Zamzam Initiative, with its 300 members emerged from the Islamic Wasat, seeks to spread moderate Islamism.
Zaki Bani Irsheid, a leader of the Muslim Brotherhood's political arm, the Islamic Action Front, said that the recent elections are forged, confirming that the regime is rigging parliament.
The Muslim Brotherhood boycotted the last election because the laws which it said would manipulate the will of the voters and establish a weak parliament.
