Sunni cleric Ahmed al-Assir Beirut – Georges Chahine Two Lebanese were killed in Sidon, south of Lebanon on Sunday after clashes between supporters of Hezbollah and Sunni cleric Ahmed al-Assir, sources said. This occurred near a refugee camp in Sidon. Sources said one of the injured people was a representative of Hezbollah in the area.
The fight broke out when al-Assir demanded Hezbollah banners to be removed from Sidon by Sunday.
The banners were meant to commemorate Hussien, grandson of Prophet Mohammed  on November 24.
Al-Assir reportedly urged his supporters to protest in Sidon. The supporters showed up with weapons and soon clashes broke out between both parties.
Lebanon’s prime minister reportedly called for people to remain calm and peaceful towards one another to prevent further struggle.
Al-Assir said he was against Hezbollah because he believes they support the Syrian regime, sources said.
