Fatah leader in Gaza Abdullah Abu Samhadana Delegations of the Palestinian factions began to arrive to Cairo to attend the meeting scheduled for Thursday for the temporarily leading framework of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) in the presence of General Secretaries of the factions.
A Palestinian source said to ‘Arabstoday’ that the ongoing Palestinian meetings of Cairo is operating in a “positive atmosphere,” and that everyone expressed his will to make the reconciliation efforts succeed in order to reach unity despite the challenges posed by the occupation.
Mahmoud Al-Aloul, member of Fatah's Central Commission, declared that the movement rejected Hamas proposal to send Abbas appointment as PM to the Legislative Council for approval. Al-Aloul accused leaders from Hamas of attempting to deny what was agreed on in the Doha Declaration, as the time approached for Cairo meetings.
The Fatah delegation member said that the next meeting of the Commission of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), which will be held on Thursday, will discuss the issue of the government formation, pointing out that it is expected to propose Ministers names. Meanwhile, he confirmed that every name will be thoroughly assessed to ensure its independency to any Palestinian organization, in accordance with what agreed upon.
President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas met on Wednesday in Cairo with the Head of Hamas Political Bureau Khaled Meshaal to discuss the formation of the interim government. Both parties had already agreed in Doha to form a national government, with national consensus, led by Abbas with the task of supervising the elections.
Member of the PLO Yaser Al-Wadiya explained that the Thursday meeting will be important and decisive and it will address the issue of Abbas transitional government and its mechanism, as well as the duties it should undertake, according to the Doha Declaration.
Meanwhile, officials said that the Wednesday meeting would be likely to welcome Doha Declaration and urge to overcome the obstacles faced by the Palestinian Central Elections Commission to update the electoral register in the Gaza strip, as it is considered to be a key step forward to the carrying out of the elections and the implementation of the reconciliation.
Officials also expected that the meeting would reaffirm the refusal to resume negotiations without a previous ending of settlement activities and of Israel’s acknowledgement of the two-state solution based on 1967 borders.
It is expected that a meeting of the Public Freedoms Committee, with the participation of representatives from the Egyptian Intelligence, will be held in order to assess the progress of the work and the steps required to speed up the application process.
Meanwhile, the Presidency spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudaina said that Abbas will remain in Cairo for two days to participate in the meetings.
Observers of the Palestinian issue expect that the announcement of the government will happen in the coming ten days.
Abbas and Meshaal confirmed in the Doha Declaration, which was signed with the approval of Emir of Qatar, that the Reconciliation Committee will continue its work.
It was decided also that the temporary leading framework of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation) (PLO) will be conducted on Thursday and Friday in the presence of Abbas, Meshaal, the General Secretary of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement Ramadan Shalah, and General Secretaries of the Palestinian factions to complete the meetings that took place previously in Cairo and Amman, in order to rearrange the Palestinian issue and restructure the PLO.
