Egypt receives 140,000 gas canisters from the US

The bombs are thought to be worth $2m The shipment was ordered from the US by the Egyptian Interior Ministry in February. Large numbers of police and military were at the port to protect the $2m investment, with troops unloading the containers to be delivered to Cairo. Workers protested outside the port, while citizens in the area declared their intention to prevent the cars from transporting the canisters to Cairo, believing the bombs will be used against the public.
Officials in the Red Sea Ports Authority refused to disclose any information about the arrival of the shipment.
Spokesman for the Interior Ministry, Maj. Gen. Hani Abdel Latif, stressed that the tear gas will only be used to protect government buildings.
