The Sudanese president, Omar al-Bashir The Sudanese president, Omar al-Bashir, is expected to arrive in Heglig in the next few hours, for his first visit to the region since it was it taken back and reclaimed from the army of South Sudan .
Al-Bashir will greet his soldiers and visit the oil installations that were vandalised in the aftermath of the South’s occupation.
The Sudanese government, which is being supported by several Arab nations, is trying to keep the oil well fires, which were ignited by the Southern army, under control.
This visit is important as it solidifies and secures the western portion of the state of South Kordofan, which was repeatedly exposed to attacks from South Sudan.
The Journalist Ahmed Mohamed Ali Hussein stated that: “al-Bashir has in the past always visited conflict zones immediately after their liberation by the army”.
President al-Bashir, who in his role as commander in chief of the armed forces is keen to be among his soldiers during these difficult times, in order to raise their morale.
