Thousands take the streets to protest
Cairo - Akram Ali
Thousands take the streets to protest Tens of thousands of Egyptians took to the streets of Egypt on Tuesday to denounce the Constitutional Declaration issued by President Mohammed Morsi. Protesters demanded the cancellation of the decree which was ordered last Thursday. Armed forces denied arresting any citizens or preventing them from entering Cairo to participate in the demonstrations, stressing that their "Role is protecting the homeland," and that "our sole allegiance is to Egyptian people and their land."
The Ministry of Health in Egypt confirmed the injury of 14 protesters in Tahrir Square and the director of the Crescent Hospital confirmed the death of demonstrator Fathi Ghraib after he was taken to the hospital from Tahrir Square. A leader of the Socialist Popular Alliance Party Talaat Fahmy said:  "Fathi Gharib, 64, a member of the party in Mataria, died on Tuesday evening at Crescent Hospital.” He posted on his Facebook: “They killed him with tear gas, and I'm on my way now to the hospital and lawyers on their way too to file a police report on the incident." However the hospital director, Mahmoud Shinawi, said to Arabstoday: "After the examining the body, I confirm that Gharib died of a heart attack, not as a result of suffocation as reported by some political movements.”
The Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Qandil expressed his grief for the recent violence which resulted in the death of two young men. He called all Egyptians to refrain from violence, stressing "The right of peaceful protest is guaranteed for all Egyptians," but adding that he will respond firmly to all forms of violence. Security forces fired tear gas at demonstrators from the top of armored vehicles at the entrance of the U.S. Embassy forcing demonstrators to flee, while the U.S. Embassy in Cairo warned its citizens from approaching centers of clashes, and suspended visa services. A source from the embassy said to Arabstoday: "The situation in front of the embassy is almost stable, ??and the clashes are far from the embassy’s building," while eyewitnesses confirmed that dozens gathered in Omar Makram street and pelted security forces with stones, so armored vehicles advanced to compel demonstrators to retreat to the square.
Furthermore, in a statement to Arabstoday, the resignation of the vice president Mahmoud Mekki was denied by the official spokesman of the presidency, Yasser Ali saying: "That is one of the rumors raining on the institution of the presidency since the issuance of the constitutional declaration."
