The number of tourists visiting Egypt rose in September by about 193% as the country received nearly 883,900 tourists against 301,000 in the same month last year, an official annual bulletin said.
The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) attributed the rise to the improving security situation and the lift of travel bans against Egypt by several countries.
The tourists came mainly from Eastern Europe, making up 47.5% of the total influx in September, according to the CAPMAS bulletin.
Tourists from Western Europe and the Middle East constituted 26.8% and 16% respectively, it added.
Tourists spent an average total of 8.8 million nights in the described month compared to 1.1 million nights last year, according to the report.
Egypt welcomed more than 167,500 tourists from Arab countries in September 2014, a momentous 68.7% increase in the same period last year, it said.
