London - Arab Today
Glasgow Airport has reported another month of passenger growth with a makeover, the Commonwealth Games and string of new routes set to boost numbers further next year. The Scottish airport saw passenger numbers increase 3.8% in September 2013 year-on-year with a 5.5% rise in domestic passengers and 2.6% increase for international routes. Its domestic services were boosted by MPs travelling into the city for the Liberal Democrats conference. “We have made a positive start to October and we are currently preparing for what will be our busiest weekend of the year. More than 110,000 people are expected to pass through our doors this weekend for the start of the October school holiday week, which will mark the end of the busy peak season,” said the airport’s managing director Amanda McMillan. “Our attention will then turn to progressing our GBP17 million investment plans which will see large parts of the terminal undergo a major makeover ahead of the 2014 Commonwealth Games. It really is an exciting time for Glasgow Airport,” she added. Airline news at the airport includes Icelandair’s increased capacity and Jet2’s announcement of a fifth aircraft to be based there.
