New York - Arab Today

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has affirmed in a meeting with Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton Monday night, the importance of giving the Egyptian-American relationship a fresh push.

The long-standing and strategic relationship must be given new impetus to serve the interests of the two nations and promote the security and stability in the Middle East, Sisi told Clinton.

Sisi received Clinton at his place of residence Monday night on the sidelines of the 71st United Nations General Assembly meetings.

In statements to the press, Presidential Spokesman Alaa Youssef said Sisi gave Clinton a full briefing on the political, economic and social developments and reform in Egypt.

He also spoke of the successful completion of the country's roadmap, the enforcement of the Constitutional principle concerning the separation of powers, the formation of the new parliament and the adoption of the 2030 vision on achieving sustainable development, Youssef added.

Egypt has also made efforts to guarantee and protect human rights, safeguard security and stability and promote the sovereignty of the law and the state institutions, he said.

To fight terror effectively, Sisi told Clinton, Egypt has adopted a comprehensive program that not only involves security measures but also an approach that refutes the terrorists' claims and reforms the religious discourse.

The two sides affirmed during their meeting the importance of promoting the bilateral relationship to be able to confront the various challenges.

Egypt and the US could play an important role being key players in the peace and security of the Middle East, they affirmed.
