President Abdel Fattah al Sisi received on Monday Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos at the presidential premises in Heliopolis, said Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Alaa Youssef.
The meeting was attended by Defense Minister Sedqi Sobhi and Greek Ambassador to Egypt Chris Lazaris.
Youssef said President Sisi welcomed the Greek minister, shedding light on the depth of Egyptian-Greek relations at the official and popular levels.
The issue of terrorism danger and efforts to combat it in the region, especially in Libya, figured high on the talks, said the spokesman.
He said the Greek minister asserted that his country understands the impact of security deterioration in Libya on the security of the region and illegal immigration to the Mediterranean countries.
The Greek official called for halting support to militant groups and drying up finance to them to restore security and stability in Libya.
The spokesman affirmed that President Sisi condemned the killing of Ethiopian citizens at the hands of militant group Daesh, pointing out that Islam rejects all kings of terrorism and killing of innocent people.
President Adel Fattah El Sisi affirmed during his meeting with Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos that NATO mission in Libya is incomplete as the North African country is witnessing a state of chaos and terrorism, calling for helping the national army and lifting the ban imposed on weapons to it to restore stability.
The presidential spokesman said that Sisi called for rallying efforts to eliminate terrorism, pointing out that Egypt rejects all kinds of terrorism at all levels.
The president said that Egypt backs efforts exerted by Special Representative and head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Bernardino León to restore stability and back the legitimate government in the war-torn country.
The spokesman said the two sides (Egypt and Greece) agreed to exchange visits at the levels of officials to coordinate stances on the security of the region as well as other political issues of mutual concern.
