Jordanian King Abdullah II and Slovenian President Borut Pahor on Sunday underlined the importance of boosting ties in economic, trade and investment fields between the two countries, Petra news agency reported.

The Talks focused on cooperation in the sectors of alternative and renewable energy, information technology, water, medical tourism, agriculture, and military industries.

They also dealt with a number of Middle East issues, namely the Syrian crisis and the war on terrorism.

During bilateral talks, the Jordanian king said the meeting serves as an opportunity to build stronger relations between the two countries.

"It is an opportunity to strengthen the already good political relations, and discuss economic opportunities, especially in light of the challenges we face," he added.

King Abdullah said Jordan is looking forward to cooperating with Slovenia in the security and defense field "to move together in addressing common challenges that confront us." 

The Slovenian president called for further efforts to benefit from economic opportunities

Pahor spoke about his visit to the Al Zaatari refugee camp, and said: "You are doing a great job. The size of the camp close to the size of the third largest city in our country. It is being managed in a good way and the people there feel good. I have never seen a refugee camp being run in this organized way."

The talks highlighted the importance of building on agreements and memoranda of understanding between Jordan and Slovenia, which are also linked by a joint business council, to boost cooperation and establish joint investment projects, especially in light of the growing Jordanian-Slovenian relations, during the recent years.

King Abdullah said there is a great potential for strengthening economic relations and trade exchange between the two countries, pointing to the possibility of taking advantage of investment opportunities in Jordan and of the free trade agreements Jordan has with a number of countries in the world, as well as exchanging visits between the private sector in both countries.

During the talks, the two leaders stressed the importance of activating the memorandum of understanding between the port of Aqaba and the Slovenian port of Koper, in order to make the Kingdom a gateway to the markets of the region, and turn Slovenia into a trade hub with the Middle East.

The two leaders talked about regional and international efforts to fight terrorism, as the Jordanian king emphasized that a applying a holistic approach is critical to counter terrorism, which threatens everybody in the Middle East and the world.
