Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met here on Thursday with Yemeni counterpart Abdel Malak al Makhlafi.

At the beginning of the meeting, Al Makhlafi conveyed the greetings of Yemen’s President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

Also, the Yemeni top-diplomat asserted that Egypt plays a pivotal role and enjoys a high status in the Arab region, Abu Zeid added.

Egypt’s stability will remain the pillar of regional security and stability, Abu Zeid quoted Al Makhlafi as saying.

Furthermore, Al Makhlafi briefed Shoukry on the latest political, economic and security developments in Yemen, citing Egypt’s supportive stance of the legitimacy in Yemen at the regional and international levels, according to Abu Zeid.

For his part, Shoukry stressed that Egypt is following up closely the conditions in Yemen in various spheres and backing all efforts exerted to reach a political settlement to the Yemeni crisis based on the UN resolutions, the national dialogue’s outcome and the Gulf initiative, Abu Zeid noted.

In a related context, the Yemeni minister posted his Egyptian counterpart on the results of the multilateral meeting held in Riyadh and the reservation made by the Yemeni government about U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s amendments to the road map, Abu Zeid said.

The Yemeni minister updated Shoukry on the ongoing preparations to hold a meeting of the Pacification and Communication Committee in Jordan soon with the participation of all parties concerned, Abu Zeid confirmed.

The Yemeni government is keen on informing Egypt of all developments, proceeding from its great confidence in the Egyptian government’s supportive stance of the internationally recognized Yemeni government, Al Makhlafi emphasized.

Moreover, the Egyptian top-diplomat briefed the Yemeni minister in the outcomes of his phone conversations and meetings with US officials during his recent visit to Washington with regard to the Yemeni crisis, Abu Zeid affirmed.
