
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met on Saturday with his Burundian counterpart Alain Aime Nyamitwe at the headquarters of Egypt's permanent mission at the UN in New York, the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said.
The meeting tackled boosting bilateral relations as well as the Burundian crisis file in the UN Security Council.
Shoukry expressed Egypt's keenness on backing efforts to achieve peace and stability in Burundi, saying Egypt abstained from voting in the UN on the deployment of a UN police force in Burundi because of the disapproval of the Burundi government on some details concerning the matter.
The Burundian minister expressed his country's thanks and appreciation for Egyptian efforts, either through the Security Council or the African Peace and Security Council, to reach a political settlement to the crisis there.
