Cairo - Arab Today

Australia is keen on fostering cooperation with Al Azhar in preaching and training imams, said Australian Ambassador to Egypt Neil Hawkins during his meeting with Al Azhar Grand Imam Dr Ahmed el Tayyeb

Al Azhar is an institution that attaches importance to disseminating moderate thought and spreading the upright teachings of Islam, said Tayyeb.

He also affirmed Al Azhar's readiness to receive more Australian imams to train them on how to deal with the current challenges.

The ambassador, meanwhile, voiced appreciation of the main role played by Al Azhar in confronting extremist thought.
