Riyadh - WAM

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, headed the UAE delegation to the 135th session of the Gulf Cooperation Council for Arab States (GCC) Ministerial, held yesterday in Riyadh, with participation of the GCC Foreign Ministers and Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Secretary-General of the GCC.

The UAE delegation also includes Ahmed Al Jarman, Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, and Mohammed Saeed Mohammed Al Dhaheri, UAE Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, Qatari's Foreign Minister, Chair of the current GCC session said, "This meeting is held amid challenges and threats surrounding the Middle East region, among others, the phenomenon of terrorism and violence, whose political, security and economic repercussions on the GCC cannot be ignored."

He commended the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain in defusing the terrorist plan that had targeted the Kingdom's stability, stressing the support of the GCC states to Bahrain, including all measures taken by the Kingdom to safeguard its security and stability.

Dr. Al Attiyah lamented the deterioration in the situation in both Libya and Syria, adding that divisions in Libya have stalled the peace process being sponsored by the United Nations.

The ministers discussed the resolutions of the Riyadh Conference on rescuing and building the federal state in Yemen. They also tackled the exacerbation of the humanitarian situation in Syria amid the obstinacy of al-Assad regime, which perpetuates killing and destruction.

The agenda included a number of topics on the GCC joint action and reports submitted by the ministerial committees to the general secretariat.
