
Slovak National Uprising Museum in Banska Bystrica has organized a grand celebration since Friday to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising that helped to topple the fascist government of Slovakia.
Thousands of spectators from around Slovakia came to witness the 70th anniversary celebrations of the Slovak National Uprising, which started on August 29, 1944.
The speakers of the celebrations were President of Slovakia Andrej Kiska, Parliament Speaker Pavol Paska and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
"Seventy years ago, people have shown confidence, bravery," said Kiska.
Slovak National Uprising was the culmination of the situation in Europe in the year 1944. The situation produced an anti-Hitler coalition of many individuals and groups, who all had the same goal to eradicate the world of fascism.
The uprising is known as a major assistance on the Eastern Front of World War II.
The celebrations are held every year, between August 28 and 31, with the main event of laying of wreaths next to the memorial of the uprising on the 29th.
