Singapore's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs, Masagos Muhammad, and a delegation accompanying him, visited the ancient city of Petra on Thursday where they were briefed on its archaeological and historical significance, and available facilities.
The visiting Singaporean officials, which toured the Siq, the Treasury, the Nabataean Theatre and the Byzantine Church, were briefed on the historical importance of the city, recognised in 2007 as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, and which has emerged as a major destination of tourist groups from all over the world.
The delegation also visited the new Petra visitors' center and checked out its facilities, where Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) Chief Commissioner Mohammad Nawafleh briefed them about PDTRA's efforts to promote tourism in the ancient city and strengthen its presence on the map of international and domestic tourism.
