Saudi Arabia to name and shame copyright violators

Saudi copyright violators will be forced to take out adverts apologising for their actions in the country's two largest newspapers in new measures announced Tuesday by the kingdom's culture ministry. A committee at the ministry stressed in a statement to Al-Arabiya.net that the sanction would be imposed on people who had violated copyrights laws and sold pirated material. Additional sanctions include a 95,000 riyal fine, the forced closure of the violator's shop for 60 days with a sign in the window stating “The shop is closed for 60 days because the owner violated copyright laws," compensation for the affected author and confiscation of the pirated material.
