Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa participated, alongside his Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) counterparts, in the inauguration of Prince Saud Al Faisal Conference Centre at the Headquarters of the GCC Secretariat General in Riyadh.
The ceremony was also attended by Chairman of the Board of Directors of King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies Prince Turki Al Faisal and GCC Secretary General, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.
The minister praised the important and genuine initiative in commemoration of Late Prince Saud Al Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud by naming the Conference Centre after him in a step that indicates appreciation and respect for the late prince and embodies the high position he had in hearts and minds thanks to his innate disposition, kind attributes, refined morals and perpetual stances that shall remain carved in history’s memory forever.
Shaikh Khalid paid tribute to Prince Saud for the role he had played in shaping the foreign policy of Saudi Arabia, which reinforced its leading role in defending the Gulf, Arab and Islamic causes and raised the Kingdom’s name high in international gatherings.
He also valued the role of Prince Saud in setting up the pillars of the Gulf Cooperation Council to achieve the interests of the GCC states and inter-connected peoples and assert itself on the world map as a regional entity that plays a substantial role in international peace and security.
The minister affirmed that the late prince was "a dear brother and friend, in the full sense of the words, as well as a prominent professor in diplomacy and a skilled politician who used to travel east and west, meet friends, negotiate with allies and keep a watchful eye on enemies at regional and global fora to protect the GCC and Arab interests, defend Islamic causes and underpin security and stability for all countries worldwide."
"We are not going to say farewell to the Late Prince - Our ministerial meeting is to take place in this centre today and we will keep remembering the Late Prince each time we come here. His words are still echoing in here, in our hearts, everywhere, and enlightening our minds, may God bless the soul of the late Prince, the prince and icon of diplomacy," Shaikh Khalid said.
During the ceremony, statements were given by Kuwaiti First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Shaikh Sabah Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the King Faisal Centre for Research and Islamic Studies Prince Turki Al-Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and GCC Secretary General Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, who all lauded the memorable roles of the Late Prince and his robust stances in defending the GCC, Arab and Islamic causes.
