The Palestinian Writers Union (PWU) has mourned the death of Egypt's renowned poet Abdel Rahman al Abnoudi who breathed his last on Tuesday after long illness at the age of 76.

PWU Secretary General Murad al Sudani said Abnoudi's death is a big loss to Arab world, poetry and literature.

He has been a staunch supporter of the Palestinian issue and a symbol for revolution and rebellion against oppression.

The funeral of the late poet, who was nicknamed "The Uncle" for his strong passion and patriotism, is scheduled for Wednesday.
