Vienna - Agencies

A fortepiano played on by Mozart for over nine years and with which he wrote more than 50 works was put on display here on Thursday in a museum housed in the Austrian composer's former home. The instrument, made by Anton Walter, a leading piano maker of the late 18th and early 19th, would be displayed for about two weeks. Mozart bought the fortepiano soon after moving to Vienna in 1781. After Mozart's death, His son Carl Thomas later donated it to the then Cathedral Music Association and Mozarteum to mark Mozart's 100th birthday. The instrument is on loan from the Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg, Mozart's city of birth.
