Sharjah - WAM

The Sharjah-based Kalimat Publishing House has won the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2012 in the category Best Cookbook Translation in the UAE for the title Lathith Jiddan . Authored by Fanny Letorunel and translated by Rania Sanyoura Lathith Jidan (It Is So Yummy), this beautifully illustrated children s cookbook, with illustrations by Rebecca Galera, is filled with simple yet delicious recipes for breakfast, cold and warm main courses and deserts. Every recipe in the book has been tested and can easily be cooked by children with only a little assistance from their parents or another adult. Kalimat is the publisher of quality children's books in Arabic language. The Awards aim to reward and honour the best cookbooks published internationally, help readers find the best out of the multitude of food books produced every year, in addition to helping publishers with international rights to translate and distribute food books and create an opportunity for publishers of books originated in other languages to access the major markets in English, Chinese, German, Spanish or French. The winner in each country competes against winners in the same category in other countries for The Best in the World. The results will be announced on Saturday February 23, 2013 at the annual Gourmand World Cookbook Awards Gala, taking place at the historical Les Folies Bergere. Kalimat's top priority continues to be the provision of quality children's books in Arabic with content that Arab children can relate to and use through the production of original as well as translated titles, such as Lathith Jidan for a range of age groups. With over a hundred publications to its credit since its inception five years ago, Kalimat focuses on producing books that the children of the UAE and the region can relate to, with vibrant illustrations and stories that talk about the value of family, relationships, simplicity, and happiness. With a portfolio of internationally acclaimed authors and illustrators, Kalimat's extensive range of books highlights traditional Arabic culture alongside the modern challenges faced by today's children, with the aim of imparting a life-long love of reading and Arabic literature to Arab children.
