Amman - Petra
His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday opened a new mosque near Amman built by a local donor in a ceremony attended by top officials. The three-storey Ghazzat Hashem Mosque in Ein Al Basha, constructed on a four-thousand square meter plot of land, holds about 5,000 worshippers. The King viewed the Arab-Islamic architecture of the house of worship which is manifest in the arches and windows as well as interior and exterior designs and decoration. The benefactor has said the mosque, built of marble and stone with two minarets, prayer spaces for both men and women and a house for teaching the Quran, was meant as a landmark in the Amman district to serve the local community and promote charitable work. Joining the King at the opening ceremony were Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Abdul Salam Abbadi as well as the Chief Islamic Justice and other officials and local figures.
