
A glowing homage was paid Monday in Algiers to the late Cherif Kheddam, one of the masters of Algerian music, at a ceremony bringing together great figures of Kabyle song, and during which a CD boxed set containing the artist's songs was presented. Ibn Zeidoun movie theatre of Riadh El Feth Office was jam-packed as the ceremony started with a few songs, from the artist's repertoire, and stories about his artistic career by relatives and friends. Accompanied by the Orchestra of Maatka, Tizi Ouzou, directed by H'cen Ait Abbas Amghar, singers Djidji, Farid Ferragui, Akli Yahiatene, Medjahed Hamid, Malika Domrane and Brahim Tayeb, performed some of Cherif Kheddam's songs, recalling his talent and creative genius. The late artists' songs deal with a wide range of topics, such as love, homeland, landscape beauty, exile, travelling, attachment to ancestral culture and the wish to see Algeria prospering.
