Ghoureya antiquities not affected by fire
Cairo - MENA

Antiquities located in Ghoureya neighborhood of central Cairo were not affected by the fire that engulfed a number of fabric shops in the area in the wee hours of Wednesday, said Assistant Antiquities Minister Mohamed Abdel Aziz said.

Once the fire was reported, antiquities experts rushed to the area to make sure that antiquities there were intact, he added.

No causalities were reported from the fire that broke out behind El Ghouri Mosque.

Ghoureya is a historic complex whose commercial area is known for the sale of textiles. It is located near the historic market of Khan Al Khalili in the heart if Islamic Cairo, not far from Al Azhar mosque.

Ghoureya fire comes two days after a massive fire hit neighboring over-crowded Ruwaei area. The Monday fire broke out first at one of the hotels there before spreading to nearby shops.

Three people were killed and 91 others injured in the fire that damaged a lot of shops there.
