
The most expensive handmade items on New York commerce website Etsy include a "Teapunk Snail" with an asking price of more than $266,000. The list of the "25 Most Expensive Handmade Items on Etsy," compiled by website Buzzfeed, is topped by the "Teapunk Snail," a sculpture of a snail from a "steampunk wasteland" that is listed as "display only," but available for purchase for a steep fee. Buzzfeed lists the price as $268,364, but the item is currently listed on Etsy for $266,940. A $267,599 piece of Wall Street Journal-inspired art includes five $100 bills, a gold bar and a silver bar, but a $250,000 "Free Bird" sculpture contains only steel, plastic and acrylic paint. The items also include a $220,000 Scissaurus Octavious, a sculpture made from scissors; a $200,000 "GERMan doll," a doll of a humanized germ with male genitalia; a $100,000 "Hair Ball" sculpture, made from combs and fake hair; an autograph from McDonald's mascot Grimace for $100,000; a $70,000 piece of sheet metal decorated with a tribute to mobile game "Flappy Bird" painted in liquid copper; a $65,000 baby stroller made from crocodile skin; and a $50,000 "beaded" statue of Nelson Mandela in multiple colors.
