
Painter and gallery, Abdelhamid Aroussi, 67, passed away in the night from Friday to Saturday in Algiers, after a long illness, his relatives announced.
Abdelhamid Aroussi, who was born in March 1947 in M'sila, began his secondary education at Constantine before he joined the School of Fine Arts in Paris. The artist created several frescoes in Algiers and Msila and repeatedly exhibited his works in Algeria and abroad since the 1970s.
In 1993, Abdelhamid Aroussi served as president of the National Union of Cultural Arts (Unac), created in the aftermath of independence, and whose purpose is to hold exhibitions and workshops to provide more visibility to artists.
At the end of his career, the deceased led the art gallery "Racim", situated in Algiers, and partook in several national and international events on visual arts.
Abdelhamid Arroussi will be buried Saturday afternoon at El Alia cemetery in Algiers.
