Antiquities ministry does not own ancient mosques in Egypt

The responsibility of archaeologists inside ancient mosques are confined only to following up their conditions and prevent any encroachments on them, said archaeologist Sameh el-Zahhar.
In statements to MENA Monday, Zahhar said that the Awqaf Ministry bears all the violations related to opening the mosques all the day.
He also pointed out the incident which involved a suspected girl, who went up to the ancient minaret at Abul-Eila mosque before the explosion which took place yesterday near the Foreign Ministry.
